Well Involved House Fire

On December 9th at 0126 hours Co. 34, Engine Co. 35, and Rescue 58 were dispatched to 11 E. Mercer Avenue for a dwelling fire. 34-9 (J. Roberts) arrived on scene within minutes and had heavy fire showing from sides B,C and D and requested the RIT from Oakmont. Engine 35 was the first unit in and was ordered to drop a 5 inch line and pull a 2 inch line to the side door. Due to the heavy fire conditions E35′s crew made only the vestibule of the doorway and started to knock the fire down from that area. Foam 35 and 34-2 arrived on location and pulled a second 2 inch line and started to the rear of the house which was fully involved. At this time Command asked for full Co. 38 and 56 for the RIT. At this time fire had extended into the roof area and the house was fully involved and it was decided that it would be a strictly exterior attack. Along with the numerous handlines in service crews also set up a 3 inch line in front and the rear to combat the heavy fire load. The fire was finally brought under control at the 50 minute mark. With temperatures under the freezing mark, crews dealt with ice and dangerous conditions on the fire ground. Companies remained scene till 0330 hours performing extensive overhaul. Units on scene: 35-9, 34-9, E35, F35, 34-2, T34, R58, L38, E38, R38, E56, 34-7, 34-7A, 56-7, M108, M53

Loss of a Friend

A longtime friend and mother of the Brookline Fire Co. passed away September 24th. Jane Feeney was the mother of fire company photographer Brian Feeney and former members Mark,  Shawn, and Jeff Feeney. Mrs. Feeney was famous for her hospitality on countless Santa Sunday’s. She would provide cookies, food and drink to Santa and his helpers each year. She also created costumes for Santa’s helpers to wear, which lasted many, many years. Jane will be missed by the Brookline Fire Company. We extend our condolences to the entire Feeney family.

Dog Days of Summer

Since July 4th the Brookline Fire Company has continued training and serving our community running fire calls. We recently had Deputy Paramedic Director Victor Berg and Paramedic John Calamia refreshed the members on how to properly package and hoist a victim inside a stokes basket. Ladder 35 is equipped with a lifting device that can hoist victims from steep grades, holes and from a roof area. Paramedic Calamia is a certified rope and rigging instructor made a usually difficult task easy to remember. As we head into the school season and kids are going back to school, we remind everyone to obey the fifteen mile per hour speed limit in school zones. Additionally, yield and pull to the side for all emergency vehicles and please SLOW DOWN when you see a fire truck exiting the firehouse. Have a safe and enjoyable remainder of the summer season.
